Hi, I am new to cake decorating, and in my class we are doing a lot of color flow, yesterday I was making two doves, they looked ok when I was done, today I went to take them off the wax paper and they were all rough and bumpy any sugesstions on how i can make them smooth

Sounds like you had lumps that didn't get thinned down. You have to stir the water into the royal icing using a slow figure '8' motion so as not to form air bubbles in it. If you didn't get it stirred enough there could be lumps.
