I am thinking of a way to save money on all the cardboard cake boards. I came up with the idea of having my Dad make me wooden cake boards for bottom base. 
I need help as to what type of wood to use. I am asking for a 14/12/10/8 inch circle. I am thinking 1/2" thick boards.
Has anyone made these and could show me some photos or offer advice.

My husband cuts square and rectangle peices for me all the time out of mdf. Im pretty sure its 1/2 inch. Its sturdy and holds the cake well. I haven't asked him for a circle yet but I am sure it will come soon enough!
