in my opinion something that big it loses it's beauty...but different stroke for different folks..as long as the couple is happy with it that's all it matters.

That is a shame that they feel the need to spend so much on a cake, considering how many people there are out there that can't even go to the doctor because they can't afford to pay for the office visit. Seems to me that money should be spent elsewhere, yes, get an over the top cake if you can afford it; but not $50G. That's just insane.

Even if I had that much $ it wouldn't go to a cake!! That last line does sum it up

Everyone is entitled to spend their money as they see fit. Personally, I think designer handbags and shoes are a waste of money - but to each his own.

Obviously, these people can afford it, and the way I see it, now the bakery staff has extra money and job security. I would have loved an order like that - would have paid for my kids' braces and such! Lol!

I'm assuming it just means royal icing all over the cake, in the style of old-fashioned British wedding cakes.

Would I ever spend 50G on a cake? No! But obviously they would...and did. What a boon for the bakery. How many people were at the wedding, would you imagine? If they spent that much on the cake (and it's anybody's guess as to how much the grooms cake cost), how much was spent on the rest of the reception? Yowza. Their extravagance made a lot of people very happy...from the baker to the caterer...and probably the florist as well.

I don't know what to say... that's absolutely insane!

I wouldn't spend that much on a cake.

She had 5 people helping her and still got blisters on her hands? YIKES!

That is crazy! But I sure do appreciate it getting noted. Maybe a lot of brides will read it and see $800 for their own cake and not freak out!

Personally, I think that kind of conspicuous consumption is offensive. But it is true that a wedding that expensive stimulates the economy. They paid a lot of money to bakeries, florists, musicians, venues, etc., and may have kept some of those businesses open for another year. Their wedding budget must've been larger than some national economies.
