Can anyone suggest techniques to ice a full ball cake SMOOTHLY? I see perfect smooth iced or fondant covered full ball cakes- for heads of a baby or for general ball shaped cake, but i can't seem to rid of fine lines if I ice with buttercream. and of course trying to cover with fondant- it will still show thru imperfections. Thank you so much everyone! love this website!!!!

Try Melvira' method on this site (the foam paint roller) and a viva paper towel. This always works great for me.

Take a corner of a parchment triangle and cut it off about 5 inches. Using the straight edge work from the bottom up lightly "scraping" the icing. Make sure the buttercream is not crusted. Then if you are using a crusting buttercream allow it to dry then use the Viva papertowel method of smoothing it further.

thank you both- I have done the melvira method but was afraid to apply it to a full ball cake, and will try the parchment paper too. sounds a bit scary but worth it icon_smile.gif
