I've done plain ol'buttercream and it's sooo yummy...I find the butter pecan mix is very strongly flavored and would likely compete with other flavors in my opinion...maybe just some sweetened whipped cream would be good too.
I use a pecan praline filling. If interested, i will post the recipe.

I use the praline buttercream recipe posted on CC. Here is the link

Here is the recipe for Creole Praline Cake filling. I found it online somewhere. Not sure where.
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup evaporated milk
3 tbsp butter
1 1/2 cup pecan meal or finely chopped pecans
1 tsp vanilla
In medium pot, cook sugar, milk adn butter till mixture reaches soft ball stage. Remove from heat. Add pecans and vanilla. Add a few extra tbsp of evap milk to get desired consistency. Cool and spread between layers of cake.
This is delicious and easy and perfect with the butter pecan cake. BTW when I make that cake I add some rum extract to the batter. It is so yummy.
Be sure to let it cool before tasting. I burned the roof of my mouth so badly because I could not wait to taste it the first time I made it. LOL
