I Attempted Something Hard For My First Wedding Cake...
Decorating By alidpayne Updated 23 Oct 2008 , 8:06pm by alidpayne
Ok guys, on Saturday my best friend in the world married my husband's brother. I love them both dearly, so of course I said yes when the asked me to be the Matron of honor, and of course I ALSO said yes when the asked me to make their wedding cake. She gave me quite a bit of artistic freedom, she just wanted fall colors, a topsy-turvy style and some polka dots.
Well, being stupid and always wanting to challenge myself, I found a cake in the galleries that just inspired me to do a similar cake with a few changes.
The original cake was by CC'er veragatafera. Here is a link to their original cake that was my inspiration.

Here is my cake that I made for the wedding Saturday.
Please tell me what you think. I would like some honest opinions and constructive criticism. I have never made a wedding cake, a topsy-turvy cake, or a four tier cake before. This was a lot of firsts for me, and I was in the wedding too, so it was a huge deal. lol
Thanks in advance for your comments & advice!
That is one sweet cake You did a very nice, loving thing for your friend.
I see nothing, *nothing!* wrong with it.
i think you should be REALLY proud.. and I know they loved it!! I could tell you put your heart into it from the first line "my best friend in the world"
That super cute! Great job! I can only HOPE my first wedding cake will turn out that spectacular! BRAVO!
Get out of town girl! This could NOT be your first I want to see what you are gonna do next to top this one, it is tooooo gooood! Really unique, great fall colors, clean and balanced for an "unbalanced" cake! Did you faux paint or marbelize the solid color? You should be proud - awesome work.
omigosh! its fantabulous!! and you were in the wedding. i bet they absolutely loved it. gee if this is your first can't wait to see others you make.
Aw you guys, thanks. I obviously know where all the flaws are, so it is nice to see it from another point of view. I have only made a few cakes, and only one stacked cake before. I was super nervous doing this one.
To answer your questions, the two solid colored cakes are brushed with dry luster dust, and the dividers to tilt the cakes are styrofoam cake dummies carved to the size and tilt I needed and then brushed with piping gel & covered with fondant.
I think it is amazing! That is a really brave undertaking for your first wedding cake or really even your 50th for that matter. Great job!
This being your first cake, this is just AWESOME. I myself would never try this as my first wedding cake but you absolutely pulled this off. I have been cake decorating for a under a year and I must say you have natural talent. One of these days I'll attemped something like this I only hope it will come out as good as yours.
Awesome, I love the colors and the style. How do you construct a cake like this?

You seemed to have shined with your work and met this challenge head on.

I hope to be this good one day!!!!!
Ohhhhhh, come on now! You're pulling our leg right? This can't possibly be your first! Are you SERIOUS??? j/k - I believe you of course! WOW - I think we're going to be seeing you on the food Network pretty soon if you keep going! This is FABULOUS!!!! If you never knew what you were destined to do in life, well...I think you just discovered it!
Your heart shows -- I mean, it just shines through in this cake!
