What do most people suggest..2 or 3 layer cakes? I am making a 3 tier: 10", 8" and 6" and very nervous about transporting it. It is for only about 15 people, so I don't think amount of cake is an issue. This is my first cake that needs to travel (VERY newbie and have only made cakes for occasions at my house). I am planning to stack before traveling. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!!

Thank you to everyone on this site. I have learned soo much from everyone's expertise!

It generally depends on how deep your pans are. However, no matter how deep your pans are, I wouldn't do 3 layers on a 3 tiered cake for 15 people. That would be enough cake to feed nearly 45 people (not including the top tier)!

Are you doing any decoration on the sides of the cake? If not, I'd definately stick to the 2 layers... more than that would be a waste.

They are 2" pans. Thanks for the reassurance..I am only going to do 2 layers each and hope they survive the car ride! I will post when completed. Thanks!!
