Roland Winbeckler has a book you can get at winbeckler.com - it is called Cake Sculpture and Sculptured Figure Piping. It explains the whole process pretty well. He has some pretty amazing sculpted cakes, some even life sized. The book is worth the $12 or so that it cost.

I have that book that Traci suggested. It is a very good book and the author explains things very well.

I am sooooo excited that all of you replied to my post. As for the scooby doo cake and all cakes on mikes amazing cakes web site, I do know that his cakes are not all cake. He also used some forms and other materials too. But I am determined to learn how to do that stuff. Check out these other web sites: lindys cakes and debbie browns cakes. They are from the UK and they are awesome! If you go to amazon.com and search for books by those names you can also see books they wrote and even get a sneak preview inside. Another author to look up is Carol Deacon.
Happy searching, Leah icon_lol.gif

me too leah, i really want to learn to do the huge sculpting! not that i would ever turn those into business, but wouldnt it look great in our portfolios? i found a picture on the net that has a life size cow,...i am trying to figure it out, and wondering where in the world could i sell this thing, haha
i guess we have to buy the books. the one guy, winnbeck offers class but are over $350.00 or so. not sure he teaches the life size sculpting though. his site says you can earn a free class if you organize a class in your area, and have 15 people sign up and pay for the class.

I have Debbie Brown's books and yes, they are amazing! She has two Naughty cake books out too that are pretty funny~if you have that kind of humor~they are not too distasteful!

Have you seen the article posted here at CC on the "Baby in a Flower Pot" 3D sculpting project? It might help in giving you a glimpse of what's involved in 3D sculpting and maybe give you some pointers. Go to "Articles" here on CC and look for "Cake Projects" and then click on "Step By Step 3D Cake Sculpting (Baby in a Flower Pot). This article is fabulous and really gets the juices flowing on trying one of these projects. Hope you like it. thumbs_up.gif

Hi everyone!
Yes I did see the "Baby in a flower pot" cake and it is sooo cute. I might have to try that one. I would love to see the life size cow too! I forgot where I saw it but somewhere on CC I saw a site to check out and once I started I couldn't stop. It's cindascreativecakes.com. I do plan to buy one of Debbie Brown's books or Lindy's. I'm like everyone else though, have to get the kids in school first before I can spend money on cake stuff. Can't wait to start though.
