Kind of a stupid question , but here goes. Can you add fondant to pretty much any kind of frosted cake. Can you put on fondant on a carrot cake with cream cheese frosting? Does it just have to be on top of buttercream.

. . . no such thing as a stupid question . . . you can indeed use cream cheese icing with fondant . . . and pretty much any kind of cake you like (only concerns here might be if the texture of your cake can't withhold the weight of what you intend to do) . . . hope that helps . . .
