I'm looking to do a hat cake on top a sheet cake for a lady that's retiring in my mother's office. I'm not 100 percent sure how to go about making the hat and would love some suggestions.

Thanks.

There are lots of ideas in the gallery...but you could bake a 10-12" round for the bottom part and use the 1/2 ball pan or a pyrex dish for the top part.

Are you doing a 3D Hat or a 1 dimensional to show off the side (You always see the profile of the hats in images - with those big purple feathers or flowers.)

I would sculpt it out, either way, so I guess it doesn't matter. Just bake a couple layers of cake and start carving a hat shape - think if you want the typical lady's hat or more of a oval (cowgirl?) type top.
