I am hoping to get some instructions, tips, etc from people who may do fondant/gumpaste figures. I am wanting to attempt Ariel (the Little Mermaid) and Mickey Mouse for my daughter's 2nd bday cake. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

I try to buy a little plastic model (e.g. bath toys are generally the perfect size) and then sit it on the counter next to me. It really helps me to get the right proportions and work out which shapes I need.

check out http://extra-icing.blogspot.com/ tons of free tutorials and she is AMAZING! It has given me the courage to make all the pooh and friends characters for my daughters birthday - and the first thing I am doing is buying the "models" like the op'er suggested.

good luck!!!

I have a tutorial with Mickey, PM me with your email address and I'll send it to you... (it takes a ton of space in your mailbox, so you'll need to make room!)
