I'm just starting my Wilton 3 class and was wondering what supplies all you fondant users feel are necessary to have. Some of the supplies are extremely expensive and have read many posts of certain ones not working properly. The teacher is really good about 'lending' us her supplies to work with in class, so I'm sure I'll figure it out too, but was just wondering what all of you experienced fondant bakers use? Thank you!

necessary supplies.

A rolling pin, Shortening, pizza cutter(not really necessary but makes life easier and you probably already have one) ruler, Something to roll the fondant on. some cornstarch or powdered sugar.

Thats really all you need to cover a cake. You can do simple borders and ribbon roses, drapes and i'm sure a few other things that i can't think of right now.

Thanks! Taking a stroll down the Wilton isle made my head spin with all the spreaders, ball tools etc.

A pair of fondant smoothers is a great investment, and they can be used for other tasks, such as when using the Viva paper towel method of smoothing buttercream icing.

I have the round mat that came with one of the kits, so temporarily I'll just use that one, and it looks like I'll use a coupon and get the long rolling pin that looks like a giant candle! Think I'll get the smoother too then. I just don't see a need for those 'tools' that have balls on the end. What the teacher used it for in class didn't seem to be anything for now. Will use hers till I decide on that set. Looks like I also need to buy the BIG pkg. of fondant to get me through the class, but would like to try out the MMF too. Thanks everyone!
