You should check out sparkspeople.com. It is a great site where you can set up a plan and log in your food to watch your calorie intake and log your exercise. It is a free site. Check it out!
I agree....I love this site. I have lost about 60 pounds this past year. I found sparkpeople at the beginning of the year and it has definately helped me keep it off. Good Luck!
good for you jenbenjr!!
If any of you are interested in a nutritional cleansing program please PM me. I have been doing this for several years (I've never been overweight but wanted the benefits of more energy and increased lean muscle mass).
I seldom eat any processed foods and many of my cakes are vegan/organic (even the icing). But its not about deprivation - so, yes, I munch on a sugar-filled, over-processed cakes and cookies at times
I agree, this is totally a great way to go. This sound similar to the plan I am going back on.
Baking this way can be chanlenging, but the rewards are great.
Good Luck.
I haven't posted on here before, love looking at all the cakes! So inspiring!!! But I wanted to add my two cents on the nutritional cleansing... if you've been trying to lose weight and feel like you're doing everything right and haven't seen a change... TRY IT!!! DH and I got on board with the nutritional cleansing about 7 weeks ago and in 30 days we had lost 38 pounds between the two of us. It has worked better than anything that I've ever tried, and now even a couple weeks off of the program we haven't gained anything back in fact I've lost another 4 pounds. I had a baby 14 months ago and for a year I struggled to lose the stubborn weight and my flabby belly... finally gave my old clothes away 3 months ago thinking I'd never fit into them again. Then my husbands aunt suggested the nutrional cleansing and out of desperation I gave it a try. DH decided to support me and do it with me and we both ended up shocked with our sucess.
I really like some of the weight loss goal ideas some have come up with. I guess I rewarded myself with a designer bikini that was 70% for our upcoming trip to Cancun ... but I really like those 2 pound incentive ideas. I'll have to come up with some for myself. Thanks!
I too am up for the challenge. I need to lose at least 35 pounds. I've gained about 40 since I got married 3 years ago and I'm not happy! I think that I will try the nutritional cleansing program.

By the way, when it comes to tasting my buttercream and my cakes, i taste and spit it out. Sounds gross, but you gotta do what you gotta do.
Not gross at all! It's smart...I never would have thought to do this! Thanks for sharing and being so honest
I too have weight to lose about 55 lbs, and I like the idea of a CC support group, count me and PM me if someone kicks that off, support groups in the way to go, it is very hard doing it alone. I joined LA weight Loss and did good for about 2 yrs got down to a size 2, and now I'm back up to my post baby fat weight.

Thanks jenny! It has been a struggle but I also had a buddy to do it with me. I still would like to lose another 10-15 pounds, but I am at a healthy weight right now and am not going to kill myself to do it. I agree with everyone else, it has definately changed my life for the better. I am so much happier with myself these days and I don't deprive myself. If I really want to eat something, I do. I think if you deprive yourself of certain things, it will come back and bite you in the a$$ and you'll end up gaining everything back...LOL!!
Good luck to all of us! I've got about 50lbs to lose too. Darn those pregnancies.
I tried to lose some weight last year, and found the most sucess with keeping a daily food log. Before I ate anything, I would log it's nutritional value (calories, fats, fiber, sugar, sodium, calcium, etc.) in and Excel spreadsheet I made out. I never really gave anything up, just adjusted accordingly. I knew that if I gave into the Whopper craving for lunch, my dinner was gonna be a simple salad. I was very careful about measuring everything out, down to the tsps of creamer in my morning coffee.
Since I was still nursing at the time, my daily goal was set at 2000 calories a day. You'd be amazed at how much food you can (and can't) fit into a day that way! On the better behaved days, I would be at 1500, and so full, I couldn't eat anything else! Plus, when faced with the numbers, I was more apt to make better decisions about what I ate (I don't really need that Krispy Kreme donut...) that day.
I also cook a lot using recipes from CookingLight.com. My husband, who hates, hates, HATES, anything healthy has yet to complain about anything I've made from there. And each recipe has a complete nutritional breakdown, so you can keep an eye on your numbers!
Before I was derailed/discouraged by some personal life occurances, I managed to lose 12 lbs in a month and a half this way. And I'm trying to psyche myself up to start again.
Wish you the best of luck to everybody.
Like someone said it is a lifestyle. I was an overweight kid and I lost the weight. I have to excersice and eat right always to mantain my weight. I do watch my weight closely , I have 5 pounds that I play with and if I reach the high of the 5 I start a mini diet so I can go down. That way it never gets overwhelming.
Edna
Tonedna, I do the same thing. 5 pounds is my limit. I was always the biggest girl in my class. A fat tom boyish girl that everyone made fun of. Now, the confidence is showing, and it's teaching my daughter to be confident in herself as well. I am not a tom boy anymore. I have long nails, makeup and high heals on everyday. i love looking great and am very proud of what i have achieved.
would some one tell me what this cleansing thing is all about? Do you spend the entire day in the bathroom? what brand works the best? I have a friend who is over 300 lbs. She is thinking of doing surgery and really is too lazy to go on a diet. she always tells me that when you have gotten this big, 10 lbs off isn't going to matter. she is depressed and desperate. I think the cleansing thing you guys are talking about would be a great kick start for her. She has a 12 year old daughter and my main concern is my friends health and that she lives long enough to see her grandchildren.
please let me know which one i could buy for her and where. How does this stuff work?
Good luck to all of you. I must recommend this DVD - for $10 I thought I would give it a try. I first started out every other day and some other excerise. I was so sore but it started noticing a difference and was able to make it threw the whole DVD. Stress is a big thing with me and I just started putting my self first on some things. I had to stop for awhile due to dad being in the hospital and then losing him after 55 days. I had to be their for everyone and sleeping in chairs, going to work and driving home (round trip 2 1/2 hours) and taking care of the family takes a toll. I do not drink soda and I eat really good but stress does pay part in weight gain. I am starting back on the DVD and my pilates which I love just not looking to being soar plus I laid down some new laws in the house for the hubby and kids and now they are keeping the house clean or lose what ever I pick up off the floor for two weeks.
some of may not like the word "law" but I work full time and drive 2 1/2 hours every day. My family get home cooked meals 6 nights a week (monday is kids choice - Mac-n-cheese, etc). I clean and clean but they just do not know how to pick up after themselves so now they do not leave and toys, shoes, etc in the family or it is gone for two weeks. Never seen my kids pick up their stuff plus they must put all dishes on the sink or lose their evening snack.
Take time to yourself and make sure you get a least 7 hours sleep every night.

A pp mentioned sparkpeople.com and so I went there and checked it out. I decided to join. I have decided the way I am starting is to go on a diet. Most people tell me "don't call it a diet, call it a lifestyle change". Well, I think that if I call it that, I will give up sooner. If I am on a diet, there is an end in sight and hope that I can again order a big mac and fries once a week and not feel guilty. Now, the GOAL is to get used to my "diet" that it eventually does become my way of life. I figure if I am on a diet for a year, I will get used to it and life will be good and big macs will be a thing of the past (well, I will still splurge on occassion). I really like the website because you put in your food intake and they tell you how many calories you've had and how many you are supposed to have. I am supposed to have between 1200 and 1600 to lose 70 pounds in a year. I'M STARVING!! But, I do remember the last time I went on a diet, I was starving when I first started. It will subside. I remember that. I did atkins years ago. I had success, but gained it all back. THat is why I refuse to eliminate and one thing. I am just going to make better choices.
Here is to all of us! I am for doing it together. Having a friend always helps!!
I used to be a health nut. I worked out almost every day and had a personal trainer. What helped me get through it most was I only ate healthy 6 days a week. I allowed myself one day to eat whatever I wanted. I didn't go crazy, but I'd eat things I couldn't eat during the week.
Perhaps it would help you?
Some of us have started a thread called Chunky Monkeys in the Lounge as a weight loss buddy support group. I know that I'm heading to OSSAS regardless of amount of weight lost since I'm in Oklahoma, but any help we can give each other is great!!
I just joined Sparkpeople.com and that site is awesome, I can't believe it's FREE!!!!! You guys should join too! And let find each on the site!!

I knew your guys would love this....it is awesome. I never thought that I would be able to track everything I ate, but I do and it helps sooo much. I love the fact that I can enter my own recipes and it figures out the nutritional value for me. Oh, and my user name on there is also jenbenjr. I would love to have some new buddies on there!

Nutritional cleansing is about ridding your body of toxins you are exposed to on a daily basis (smoke, pollution, pesticides, processed foods, etc...). At the same time you are cleansing you need to be replenishing your body with nutrients for it to function in a healthy way. Think about how good you feel when you have been eating healthy for several days. Your body cleanses naturally, but we expose ourselves to so many toxins sometimes you need a little bump! There are a lot of programs out there and yes, some you will spend half the day in the bathroom! The one I do is not extreme like some others. Any program, dieting or nutritional cleansing, will take commitment and can be tough - so if your friend is lazy and depressed as you say she may be better off with the surgery. I know a few folks who did lap band surgery and they swear it was the best thing they did for themselves - I sure would liked to have seen them take a different approach but so happy it has worked for them.

Snowshoe1 I would love to hear more, please PM me when you get a chance. This sounds like something that can help IBS
I LOVE Weight Watchers. I started WW 18 months ago, and was over 300 lbs. This last week I hit 100 lbs. lost. It has been a lot of work, but I have been very surprised at how little I had to change to make a change. You can live your life on this program. I have three kids and a husband, who like to eat, and don't like change, but they have been great. We have all improved our lives, and are so much healthier. I have teenage girls, who are not overweight, that have learned how to eat and be healthy, for their whole life. I use every bit of help and inspiration that I can get. My WW pal left me a month ago, so finding all you will give me a boost to lose my last 50 lbs. They are proving to be the hardest. Good luck everyone. Like my leader says, "If you kind of, sort of follow a plan, you'll kind of, sort of lose weight". And believe me going from a size 28 to a size 14 feels better than any food tastes!!!
adobewife, YOU GO GIRL!!!
I am so proud of you. I have to agree with you on everything. I feel like i have given my children a head start, a gift if you will. Hopefully, they will be armed if this problem is at hand.
You teach them to love food, but the right kinds.
I trully believe that we love the kinds of food that we grew up on. Soul food from mom's kitchen. Well this mom bakes instead of fries, and has vegies instead of pizza and strawberries instead of chocolate cake or chips.
well, chocolate cake sometimes, I am after all a cakester. lol
Ok you guys are going to think this sounds goofy but try the Think and Lose program. It is a Cd that you listen to and it hypnotises you (I know sounds silly). It talking about eating half and leaving half throughout the cd. While you listening to it you're thinking "this is not going to work" but it does! When you go to eat you really do eat half of what you usually do! My got the cd's first and told me about them and I was thinking "Ok mom, that's not going to work". But after she lost her first 20 pounds I decided to try it out.
I am not really overweight but I used to be, I was 191 in highschool and lost 45lbs my senior year doing slimfast. And then with each pregnancy (3 total) I would gain all of my weight back and then lose it again doing slimfast. After my last baby I got down 137 but after about a year my weight started slowly creeping back up on me. Because once I got off the slimfast I still didn't really know how to eat right. I was up to 151 about a month and a half ago and now I am back down to 137! Using the Think and Lose Cd. I finally feel like I know how to eat! Before I would eat hardly anything at all during the day and then by dinner I would be starving and just pig out. And that wasn't working out so great for me. Now I know that it's not about depriving yourself of foods that you enjoy, it's about eating half as much.
Check it out, it really works! I lost 15 pounds with it (my goal is to lose 7 more). And my mom has lost about 35 so far (she has about 100 more to go).

How lucky. To get a chance to go to OSSAS! Sweet!! I have a problem with making the cakes as I want to sample every darn thing I fix, so I have gained weight.
But, I try to lose it and behave myself by not eating too much goodies. Here is another website which, believe it or not, really works. http://www.paulmckenna.com/
The mind is very powerful in controlling weight loss. Being in the medical field, I prefer using WW, The Zone, or something as simple as staying away from refined flour, sugar, high glycemic carbs instead of fasting or cleansning diets. Eat six x's a day, small meals, and lift light weights for the greatest impact.
Good luck on your quest!
Love this thread! Just had baby #2 and now have 30 lbs to lose (at least). I can't seem to stop overeating! Plus my 10 yr HS reunion is in 3 months...I don't wanna be one that everyone says got fat ! I looked at sparkpeople when I was still pregnant; looks like a great place for support. Good luck to everyone!
I just want to know how you lose weight with an under active thyroid. NOTHING works for me?!?!?!?
alisoncooks, congrads on your baby.
I gained 60lbs with my first. lost 30 of it and gained the 30 back while being pregnant with my second. I missed my 10year HS reunion back in 2000 because I was fat. But, I bump into some of my classmates sometimes, and they don't recognize me. It feels really good.
It'll come off slowly, just focus. Don't make great big goals, because if you don't see it being reached fast enough, you'll give up easily that way.
when you go to the grocery store, read what you are buying. make sure to stock up on good stuff, that way you won't have anything to reach for in the fridge that will make you mess up.
Okay, I created a cake central spark team on sparkpeople.com. Here is the link - http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/groups_individual.asp?gid=24075 if that doesn't work, go to sparkpeople.com, click on community, click on spark team, search cake central and you should see it in that list. To make it easier, there is a drop down menu that you can decide how to list the boards (members, name, etc.) and highlight name match or something liket hat. You'll know when you see it.
I hope to see you on the spark pages.
BTW - I've lost 2 pounds!
I joined the fun. I'm on vacation and won't officially start recording things until I get home, but I'm right here with you.
wow sparkepeople is great..I just joined I was trying to figure out how to become part of the Cake Central Team not sure if I did it right or not if someone knows how to do it let me know...my name there is YAYI95...i have decided to set a small goal of 10 pds first as not to discourage myself as I usually do......Good luck to everyone
