Begginer! Layered Cake Question.

I am trying to make a tierd cake , do you guys suggest I crumb coat and frost each layer before layering them? Or frost them all together? And how would I stack them already frosted? ? icon_rolleyes.gif

welcome to cake central. Each layer should be trimmed flat and filled, the stacked and crumbcoated.

There are instructions for stacking a cake in the articles section. If you are making a tiered cake, you will also need dowels. that is part of the instructions you will find.

I decorate the entire cake first then put the top tier on. Put it in the freezer for a little while and that will help to not mess up the decor on the top layer. Good luck - once you tier a cake, you will do so many more because it is so much fun icon_smile.gif

Thank you the artice was helpful , but what about frosting? Do I frost each individually before stacking?

No; it is much easier to frost them all together. icon_smile.gif

You frost them separately, then assemble.

If you're making a layered cake, you put filling in between the two layers, stack them, then frost them together. If you are making a tiered cake, you frost each tier (usually more than one layer), then stack them. [/i]

Oops...yes, that's what I meant. Each cake (2 layers) is frosted separately, then put the two decorated tiers together.
