Is there a trick when doing stencils in buttercream? I cover the stencil, lift carefully, but there is always a smudge or it does not look neat. One of the stencils from designer stencils is a flower with a thin stem. Should I maybe use a paintbrush to do the stem to avoid this colour running into the next. I usually apply the buttercream with a palette knife.Any tips greatly appreciated.

Make sure that your BC is crusted really well- even stick in the fridge for a few minutes to help it, then the stenciling should be fine.

Someone posted a link to this site on another thread. You might find it useful. There is a list of videos, and the first section has one about "buttercream and stencils".
