How To Make A 3D Block Letter Cake Topper?

I need to make a 3D block letter "Z" as a cake topper. I'm going to put it on a 6" square cake, so I want it to be about 3"x5". I'm not sure if I should make it out of rice krispies, gumpaste, or if I should just cut it out of foam and cover it in fondant. Any advice would be appreciated!

I did a cake that needed 3d block letters Q and U so I used chocolate melts and poured them into the cookie cutters and popped in freezer then brought to room temp and popped out- Voila.... The cake is the wedding cake in my gallery...hth
