Instructions To Make Nfl Helmet Cake Anyone?

I have made 2 helmet cakes. What I did was I used 2 6" or 2 8" rounds (depending on the size of helmet you want) then I used a pyrex bowl of the same size for the dome top. Stack the rounds and cut off the front 1/4 of the cake. Put the bowl cake on top and buttercream the whole thing. Then fondant overlay and put the appropriate team logos on the helmet. For the face guard, roll ropes of gumpaste (2 of them) a half circumference of the round pan you used, leave them in the pan to dry and keep their shape. Cut short pieces for the dividers in the face guard. I used gumpaste or tylose glue to glue them together after they dry and them put them into the front of the cake with tothpicks.
I hope this helps, good luck, they are fun to make!

I'm going to attempt one of these for the first time. When you stack the rounds, do you go the whole cake circles and dowels route, or do you just put the layers on top of each other? Same with the bowl?
Wish me luck

Then that is what I'll do! I have never carved a cake, so the thought of trying to figure out the cake rounds thing unnerved me.

Then fondant overlay and put the appropriate team logos on the helmet.
Remember that the team logos are copyrighted.
TlReetz, Did you have any trouble with putting the fondant on. I have one of these for a friend in a couple weeks and am not the best smoother.
I love mmf though and would prefer to use that.
Also, how many people does this serve.
Thanks
