Will cream cheese icing keep sitting covered on the counter? If so, for how long?!

I did do a search, it came back with how long it will keep in the fridge!

So what was the result because I'm making one, too. I have a horrible time searching threads, I seem to get thousands of links with uncertain relevancy.

JanH, It is this recipe!

1/2 cup of shortening
1/2 cup (one stick) unsalted butter @ room temp
1 8oz bar cream cheese @ room temp
1 tblsp white vanilla extract
2 lbs shifted powder sugar
1/2 tsp salt

So I want to try Earlene's recipe, but a) I don't have 0 trans fat shortening and b) I don't have the butavan flavoring.

Lilacc- Is that recipe a crusting buttercream? Is it very soft?
