How Do You Suppose This Is Supported In The Middle?

I am recreating this cake for a one year old's birthday this weekend. What do you think is in the middle of the cupcakes? They look very neat and solid with no slumping.

or, what do you suggest i put in the middle to make them stand nice and tall?

They look like mini cupcakes. It also looks like they are standing on one another with no other support.

ya, i can see they are stacked but i wasn't sure if maybe there were something in the middle that you can't see that's giving them extra support.
