I have only been doing cakes for about 6 months in my spare time. Over spring break (I'm a teacher for my day job), I decided to play around with rolled buttercream and some of the new techniques I'd read about. I made a cute tiny little blue cake....certainly not perfect, but I was proud for a new-bee. I tried to create some designs out of royal icing, and my proud hubby took a picture of it for me when it was finished. I have a 2nd kitchen upstairs in our house where I do the baking, so I left the cake sitting on the table upstairs while we went out to dinner. When we came home, the dogs greeted us at the door, and we decided to veg out and watch a little TV in our den. All of a sudden, I heard a loud bang above us. I looked around for Nigel, our Peke-a-poo version of Beelzebub. No where to be found. I ran upstairs, calling for him, and he came bounding out of the kitchen, blue icing all over his face, eyes saying, "What'd I do?" I walked into the kitchen to find this lovely site!! Here are the before and afters.....teeth marks and all!

Welcome! Yes, I feel like you truly havn't "arrived" until youve had a scenario like this one, by pet, kids or "well intentioned others". I love that we can all share, only another decorator would understand.

Peke-a-poos are adorable and super intelligent......and they live for cake and they can outsmart any human to get to cake!! (well, at least mine does!) Everyone gets a kick out of the before and after, and it is one of my favorite stories to tell!! Check out the pic on the adjacent post!

I have a 17 year-old son (will be 18 in January). He can beat any peek-a-poo or any other breed of 4 legged-friend for that matter hands down lol! And not only that, but he is smart enough to lose the evidence. My creations dont just incur damage-they just disappear poof like magic lol!!!!!

mom: Son, have you seen that cake/tray of goodies/pan of fudge that I just spent hours working on?
son: What cake/tray of goodies/pan of fudge?
mom: The one that was on the table.
son: Which table?

At least the cake was just for practice. My 2 y/o started taking mice bites from the cakes this year. I've told her many times that she can't have the cake top till MOMMY tops the cake for them. Well, of course that does not compute to a 2 year old. If she can reach it, it's fair game. A few months ago she made craters in a cake I was doing for a friend. Needless to say, I now make sure my cakes are up out of reach before little ones are up and about! LOL. My dog is to small (I hope) to get up on the table.
