I got an order the other day for a baby shower cake. She's invited around 70-75 ppl. She thinks a cake for around 45-50 ppl will be enough. She wants a 2 tier round stacked. She wants the cake to match to invitations, which are very simple. Yellow with polka dots. She said she wants fondant, but I'll have to get back with her. I don't know if she meant the whole cake or just accents. I was thinking just yellow b/c with fondant polka dots. I'm not sure how much to charge since I live in a small town.

When in doubt, I use a ball-park of $1 per serving and see it it looks right. For a simple cake with fondant accents, $50 seems reasonable (in my area) For fondant covered, it would be more.

My starting price for 2-tiered cakes is $2/serving. That's what I would charge for the cake you described, but of course, as JoAnnB said, you have to consider your location and market.

I have called around to bakeries in the area and ask prices on a cake that size and use the average.
