This is what is confusing me....Garrett vs. "straight frill cutters"...
From sugarcraft: STRIP CUTTERS These strip cutters do the job fast and neatly. use these cutters to make ruffles. Several sizes and shapes to choose from. Used for creating exciting borders, side decorations and other creative applications.

Anyone shed any light on the difference. They look more like a straight stencil in the shape of a ruler rather than a ruffle maker....
With the frill cutters, once you cut out the circle, and cut apart you have a length of paste that is naturally ruffled. You can then make more ruffles with a ball tool.
The stip cutters would have to be ruffled, again with the ball tool, or pleated.
In either case, you probably have to join lengths together to get all the way around your cake.
I do like the way the garrett ruffler looks but it kind of hangs like swags and was wondering what you do if you just want it to go around level/straight on the bottom of a cake instead of the scallop design. I thought maybe the ones sugarcraft is calling straight cutter for ruffles was that but from the examples they show I think it is just like a stencil you put around your cake. Maybe I should call sugarcraft...? Doyou use simple syrup or egg whites to attach?
I have both and to tend to use the straight cutter more as it can be cut in different widths. This is especially good if you want to create layered ruffles with different colours
