The easiest way is to bake a larger cake and cut out shapes to cover with fondant.

You can bake thin layers to fill and stack, or torte a regular cake. It helps to freeze the cake-makes cuts smoother.

This is a messy business, similar to petit fours.

For the circular ones couldn't you use the mini ball pans? And the square I would just bake a larger cake, freeze and carve to get that little present shape.

Hi,
Just saw your post on mini cakes and thought I'd share. Not sure what the size of those boxes are. I made mini-cakes and found them very time consuming and wouldn't charge anything under $6.00 each. I used a large muffin pan and a mini loaf pan for them. They fit in a 5" cake box easily but I wouldn't know what to use for your boxes. They were approx. 4" in diameter and about 3" x 4 1/2" each. You can view them in my photos. Hope this may help some. icon_smile.gif

I think they round but covered in fondant gives a more rounder shape.
