Oh Tina! Wish I was going, but I can't afford to go out to the West this year. I'm making my plans for the 2008 one in Orlando and the 2009 in St. Charles. I hope you can make it to either one of those--I have to meet the celeb face to face, ya know! icon_wink.gificon_biggrin.gif

It is in Illinois. I would love to get out to it this year, but we are supposed to be trying to buy a house this year, so I don't think I can swing it. The one in Orlando we are scheduling our family vacation around and the one in IL, I can at least drive to. Man, Tina! I'm sorry that it will not happen this year!!!! icon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_sad.gificon_sad.gificon_sad.gif

I'm considering going. Can anybody tell me what all they do at the convention and ballpark how much it is? I looked over the proposed schedule and couldn't really tell much. Are the demonstrations extra, etc? Can you tell I've not been to one yet? Thanks everybody!

cakeatty--
The deluxe registration fee, last year, was $380 and included 8 demo classes of your choice, access to vendor area, cake display area, breakfast and the banquet. You could purchase additional classes for $5.00 each.

Last year was my first year going and I had a blast. I learned so many techniques and met so many cake people. If you can go, by all means, go. I'm sure I left some things off but I think it was well worth the money.

Or and you get quite a bit of free stuff. You get a nice tote bag with a strap from Wilton, packages of several different kinds of gumpaste, cutters, Betty Crocker mixing spoon, etc.....

I kept having to go back to the room to unload...LOL!

Thanks Mac! My DH has told me if it's isn't really expensive, he'll pay for me to go so I'm making sure it's worth it icon_smile.gif Do you need to stay the entire week or is it something where I could come in and then leave a few days later?

cakeatty--
The actual convention doesn't start until Thursday and classes go thru Saturday. You don't have to stay the whole time, just get there in time to register before your first demo/class.

There is so much be sure to schedule down time for re-couping. I almost didn't and I was totally exhausted every night. I did manpower volunteer work in some of my off time. This is something that is good for everyone. Each time you did a volunteer time, your name went into a drawing for a class with Nickolas Lodge (darn, I didn't win that).

We left on Saturday right after the banquet. Sunday, the vendors marked most of the merchandise down 50%. I had bought several buckets of Fondx for $10.00 but Sunday, it was $5.00--darn it! I am still using the last of the fondant that I bought so this year, I'm going to get twice as much and have it shipped home. CalJava had boxes of gumpaste flowers for $5.00--gonna get more of those, too.

Hope to meet lots of CCers there.

Mac, demo's went until 3 or 5 on Sunday, then at 7 they have a night of Sharing where people that did demo's sit around and show what they did again or something else and people can walk around and look at all of them.

I've always gone on Wed evening, in time to register, pick up my packets of stuff, and drop my cake in the display room. That way Thrus morning I can just go, go, go. The last two years I've left after 5 on Sunday, after getting my cake out of the the Display, but the first year I did stay for the nights of sharing.

It isn't a cheap experince, but it is a great experince!! icon_smile.gif One I wouldn't change for the world. I'm excited I get to go to this one because I wasn't expecting too. I do not think I will get to go to the FL one, so I'll enjoy this one while I can.

Oh that's right...I forgot about demos on Sunday. I made sure that I didn't sign up for any of those since we were leaving.

TC and I are flying up. Roundtrip will be about $300, unless I can priceline it for cheaper. I was hoping to take a cake this year. Oh well, there's next year. Heck, I'll probably fly that, too.

I would LOVE to meet up with the folks on CC who've been so valuable to me in my first full year of cake decorating while we're there! Especially those people that have been there before who can point us to all the good stuff icon_smile.gif

So when you go to ICES, do they do some kind of package deal with the hotel for your room or are you on your own after you pay the fee for the convention? Anybody ever bring their hubbies/significant others, etc.?

I think you can get a pkg deal. Someone whose been there before would know. Hope you get to go!

You pay for the convention at ICES.org. You pick regular or deluxe registration. Regular is the basics, access to the cake room, Breakfast Meeting, Banquet. Deluxe includes those as well as 8 demos.

If you are staying at the host hotel you will need to contact them and make your reservation through them. Do tell them you are there for the ICES convention as they often have reduced (atleast a little bit) room rates for those going to the convention.

If anyone is staying somewhere in Omaha other then the host hotel I'd be happy to give them a ride. Does anyone know what the hours are?

texassugar--

Hotel registration is thru ICES this year. I have already checked with the hotel and they directed me back to ICES. Rooms are running $136.00 a night (per hotel staff).
