On 1/1/07 we sent our 13 year old daughter off to AJ 2007 (Australian Jamboree). She will be away for 13 days!!!!
It is only day 2 and I MISS HER!! icon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gif
My husband cannot understand this. He says that she will be home soon and that she is probably having too much fun to miss me. NOT WHAT A MOTHER WANTS TO HEAR!!!!!
In the meantime, I am counting down to days

Hi BarbaraK, I'm sorry you are missing your daughter, may be miserable, but it is only natural. Somehow DHs just don't get it, maybe because they are not as close with the children as moms are!

I know you don't want to hear that she might be having such a good time she isn't missing you, but wouldn't you rather that be true than to think she is as miserable as you are?

What a great experience for your daughter, sounds like a wonderful opportunity for her. Hang in there, mom, this too will end! Just spend more time here on CC, we will help you pass the time. Janice

I feel the same way but my daughter is only 1 and when she just spends 1 night with the grandparents I start missing her as soon as I leave. My husband doesnt understand at all and tells me I keep talking about it. So I understand what you are going through.

When I was 13 I traveled with a few classmates to Spain and traveled for 14 days. It is some of my best memories, and sadly probably a once in a lifetime event icon_cry.gif While my mother cried the whole time I was gone, and I did miss my family, It was the best experience and set me up for more adventuring on my own later in life. It was the beginning of independence, and realizing I could survive without the family unit! Please, cherish this time as a time of growth, and learning for both of you. Plus, she will be back soon--Just think college is just around the corner icon_eek.gif

Yeah BarbaraK I know how you feel, you miss them dreadfully. The time will pass (I know it's hard to believe) and she will whirl in with bags of dirty laundry and talking 100 miles an hour and all of sudden you won't be able to stop smiling. You'll feel like you were there too and quietly wishing she'd be quiet for a while cause your ears and brain have gone into overload. She will have missed you at night when it's quiet but not during the days when it's such a whirr of activity, and that's the way it should be.

She is home!!!! Yeah!!!! Picked her up from the pick-up point at 4pm and she gave me the biggest and longest hug as soon as she got of the bus! icon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gif
She was soooo tanned and her clothes were not the best but she is home safe and sound and in one complete piece. No cuts, bruises or scratches.
Only a big bag of dirty clothes washing.
It is now 8.30pm and she has not stopped talking. Trying to tell us everything she did ..... just as your had predicted Sparklepop!

It's so good to have her home again!!

It was just like sparklepop said it would be huh. I have an 8 yr old. and she sometimes spends the night with my sister who only lives acroos town and I worry. But the second she walk through the door I get a blow by blow account of everything that happened good or bad. So I can't imagine what it will be like when she goes out on scouting adventures. i was worried with DS but I think I will worry more over her cause she is my baby. I am so glad for you she is home safe and sound thumbs_up.gif

Her luggage was not allowed into the house. We unpacked and sorted everything out on the decking!! OMG what do these kids do??????
Some of the clothes were just not worth the effort of washing and they went straight into the bin. The rest were washed in the washing machine TWICE before they looked like normal clothes!!!!!

I found the luggage and everything she took smelled like low tide on a hot day.
I also have 2 boys when they went on camp 1 left a few clothes at camp including his swimmers and towel and my youngest who went to camp for the first time last year stayed in the same clothes because "he couldn't find any others" we both packed his bag but he couldn't remember where anything was. Thank goodness he was only away for 3 days and there wasn't much washing when he came home LOL.
