Last week we unexpectedly found out that my husand is diabetic. Just over a year ago our corporate office closed our affliate office here where we both worked. I had already begun to build a little cake business and my husband had told me that I could soon venture out and go full time with it. WELL that was before our office closed. When it did he decided to open his own business and things are okay with me trying to bake full time but now with this new discovery and our COBRA insurance ending soon I am in the market for new insurance coverage (affordable I might add icon_cry.gif I am having a pity party because it looks like the only way we can afford insurance is for me to go back to work for someone else. I have committed to helping with my 3 Grandchildren after school and I will continue to do that. It saves my Daughter so much money and I help with homework while getting a lot of one on one time with them. I have applied for a night position at a local hospital so that I can get insurance, still take care of my Grandchildren and maybe, just maybe get a little baking in. While learning how to use his monitor we tried it on me and my reading was high too. I go into the doctor Tuesday to get checked out. When it rains it pours! Thanks for letting me get this out of my head for a few minutes at least.

You poor baby. Sending hugs your way as we speak.

On the plus side, at least your husband has been diagnosed and can now take control of his condition, and you're going to be checked out so that's good, too.

Sounds like you really love your special time with the grandkids, and your daughter appreciates the help.

It's not easy being a hero, but you are that and so much more to your family icon_smile.gif

Whenever you need a break, we'll be here for you.

Hey Girl~
Don't worry so much! I'm sure everything will work out. You just hang in there & keep the faith! You are a great help to your daughter. She is so lucky to have you look after the kids for her. Not many parents get that help. I hope your sugar level was just high because of the holidays. Smile & hang in there! I'm sure you've been through tougher situations. You can get through this! Hugs, ~TC~ icon_smile.gif

Hi Alamosweets, this may be a blessing in disguise for you both. A friend of mine just has been through the same thing, her husband discovering he was diabetic. He is being treated, and together they are eating better and both losing weight, his sugar count is almost to normal in a very short span of time, and they are both feeling 100% better!

A side benefit seems to be that they are shopping and cooking together, bringing them closer!

Good luck and all the best to you! Janice

I'm sorry your new year is starting off so challenging. It sounds like you have a wonderful husband and you are an awesome mom/grandmother. I just know this will only draw you all closer. Don't forget to try and get some down time in with watching that blood sugar. Stress also plays a big roll in controlling those levels. Big Hug! Evie
