Hey all,
I have an order next Saturday for a 2 year old child. She was adopted from China and the mother thought it would be nice to have an "oriental" themed (her words, not mine!) cake for her birthday.
I'm thinking of a little fondant kimona, maybe some bamboo, but the ideas are not really flowing.
I'm hoping the experts here can help me out with this one..

Thanks,
Cindy

Your idea of bamboo is a good start. How about baby panda(s) hiding behind bamboo trees or eating the bamboo shoots? That would be cute. I don't think a kimono would be suitable...i think thats more japanese. or having the chinese character "happiness" piped on the cake?(not that i know what it looks like..but it's significant to them). the chinese love the colours red and gold. just a couple of ideas...hope it helps.

I don't know, maybe I'm having a brain fart, but I could have sworn kimonos were chinese.

Thanks for your ideas, though..I'm gonna jot them down..

Kimonos are Japanese icon_smile.gif. But I love the ideas of the bamboo and little pandas! How cute! I hope you post pictures - I have a girlfriend who is also adopting from China - so I'd love some inspiration!

Maybe you could do a cake in the shape of a chinese lantern

lol..it's a 2 year old child...look to do some chinese cartoons if you can google them

the cartoon characters would be easy to copy or model..

but, just keep it colorful and fun, after all , it's just a 2 year old..

Keep it simple , colorful and most of all FUN!!!

The Panda idea sounds just like the ticket..

Black and white is something that draws the little one's and if you place them on a nice cake board the little figures can be kept for a long time..
