My mothers friend gave me a set (4) of old square cake pans from when she used to make cakes years ago. They are really heavy pans and very well made. The problem is they have been in storage for probably 20+ years and they need a GOOD cleaning. The look "tarnished" for lack of a better word. How do you suggest I clean these without damaging the finish? Thanks in advance icon_biggrin.gif

personally I would run them through the dishwasher and see what happens.

otherwise, try scrubbing with Bar Keepers Friend

i'd try oxyclean. I use that on my pans when they get that golden color on the bottom from cooking. I usually fill the sink with hot water and in an hour or two they are like new. Maybe you can try that. HTH

After the dishwasher I'd soak them in water & baking soda, if they are still tarnished. Baking soda cleans anything~ Sounds like you have got your hands on some very good pans icon_smile.gif

Thanks everyone...I will try these ideas.

TC...they seem to be a very good set pf pans. The pans are very heavy and they will definitely bake a cake with defined edges and corners (not like the Wilton pans that seem to have somewhat rounded corners). They kind of resemble Magic Line panes with the very straight edges. The pans have no markings on them at all but I wish I knew who the manufacturer was. I can't wait to try them.

Oh maybe they are Magic Line. I have the round ML pans but no square ones. I have all Wilton squares & I hate them. Can't wait to get all Magic Line~ When are you doing your 1st cake in them? Let me know how they bake! In my book anything free is fantastic!! Enjoy them~
