The pin-prick method has SAVED MY LIFE! I have horrible handwriting and didn't like to write on cakes because I'd work so hard on the decorations and then put my sloppy writing all over it and ruin everything.

The method is to type out your saying on the computer, choose the font and and size you want, and print it on regular paper. I pin the corners onto the arm of the couch and then trace the saying using a pin, poking through the paper. When you're finished the reverse side is kind of like Braille. Now you can LIGHTLY rub it onto your crusted buttercream cake and it will leave a slight indentation of the Braille letters that you can then trace with your icing. Sometimes if I've waited too long the buttercream is too crusted and I have to pin it onto the cake and re-prick the holes.

It takes some practice but it's WELL WORTH IT!
