I'm doing a scary menacing rat for this weekend and I'm trying to figure out what I want to put on the cake board. If all goes well the rat is going to be standing up, so a lot of the board will be showing. I don't want the base to be a rat cage...I'm thinking something more outdoorsy. I'd do cobblestones but I don't have that impression mat yet.
Any ideas?

I love the manhole cover idea!
I just googled a pic ...wow, some are pretty fancy but here's a generic one (below).
You should be able to to make it with your kitchen or other tools (instead of a mold or impression mat).

I don't know what this is for but if your going for a halloween theme you could make him in a grave yard. Or you could make him peaking round a log if you like the outdoorsy look. I don't know just throwing some things out there!

Irene, I love the NY subway idea too. I doubt I have time to do a track as good as I would want it to be.
Ewww, that would be so funny if the rat was eating a severed finger!! I'm not sure if they want it to be gross too...or just scary. It kind of depends on how much time I have. It's due Friday night, and I originally thought I had till Saturday....so I better get going on this cake!!!

Thanks again for all your help. Since my rat was dark gray I didn't want the whole board to be gray too....so I ended up making it look like the rat was standing in murky water and I did part of a manhole cover on the corner of my cake board. I didn't end up having the rat standing up. It's already pretty low to the ground so I didn't think it would be worth the time and effort to make it standing on four legs. I did make his mouth open with sharp teeth though.
