ok, need a little input...
the wedding cake for saturday the bride wants cornelli lace on the bottom and top tier, and the tier in between just the dots.
i showed her this beautiful cake done by cakemommy- (i hope you dont mind. it is beautiful and i did my first wedding cake for my SIL with this as my guide, with cakemommy's permission)
the bride does not prefer the ruffle swag around the cake seperating the cornilli lace from the smooth part.
so my 2 questions- what other border would look nice with this design other than the ruffle. not so "girly?" i guess.
and the other would be- would it be too much and not look right if the whole bottom and top tier were done completly in cornelli lace?

here is the link to the cake, and i tried to attach a picture of it also.

I just love this cake - it's currently in my favs. Yes, I think you could do all cornelli lace on both of the layers - it would look fine with the middle layer dots. However, that is a lot of cornelli to do!! Or, you could also separate the cornelli from the smooth with a dotted (or pearl) border which would give it a different look then dust the dots/pearls with luster dust. Just a couple of suggestions. Good luck on this beautiful cake! icon_wink.gif

i really would like to do a different border if i could find one a bit more "simplier" and not so fru-fru icon_rolleyes.gif if it wouldnt take away from the cake itself. i thought maybe a dot border but wasnt sure how it would look

Your cake will look beautiful w/the top & bottom tiers completely covered in cornelli. Many, many people have done similaricon_smile.gif If the bride wants some smooth part on those sides, then make it a straight line about 1/2 way down rather than scalloped and no border is needed.

Another option would be to just do a line (like a drop string) with a star tip.

For this cake I used tip 18 to separate the sotas lace from the smooth part of the cake: http://www.geocities.com/magdacakes/MDWed.html

what a very beautiful cake magda. i am going to have to call her again tomorrow. now that i think about it, i am not sure if it was the ruffles, or if it was a mixture of the ruffles AND the "SWAG" effect.

Thanks!

Checking if it was the style or shape of the border (or both) that she didn't like sounds like a good plan.
