I have Wilton's Christmas Red color and it just turns flourescent! What can I do for a pretty red for poinsettias?

Thanks!

I just logged on to find the answer to this same question! So here's a bump, and hopefully someone out there will know how to help...

You are right the christmas red never works for me either. I always use the Red Red (wilton as well) there is a pic of a red poinsettia in my photos if you'd like to see the tone.

What I do to get the red is, I mix the icing with the red color and it turns pink. I wait a few hours so it can set and then add more red color. It tends to darken when you sit for awhile. MOst of the time it works for me. Good luck.

I had the same question. I'll have to try the method that fmcmulle mentioned as my Walmart doesn't have the Red Red and I only have Christmas Red. Either that or I drive an hour to the nearest Michael's and I wish I had the time!

I have heard that if you mix in some cherry koolaid powder with your red coloring it brings out the red more. Also, it gives the icing a cherry flavor. I have never tried it, but the lady that told me said it works well. I would test it first...

I have not tried this, but someone told me if you add Wilton's red icing in a tube first and then add your gel color. HTH

I had the same problem with Chrismas Red and posted a similar question. I was told you could add a little black or burgundy to your icing. What I did was add a little black, then I added about 1/4 of the bottle of no taste red. My red is now perfect for my poinsettas.

I use the no taste red then a dash of black and it turns out great every time without the horrible aftertaste of the other reds.
