I made a yellow cake with vanilla buttercream filling and Chocolate butter cream frosting. Now I want to make cake balls. Do you have to use frosting from a can or can I use the vanilla buttercream. Thanks

You can use whatever you want for enough moisture to hold the cake together in a ball.

You don't even need to use frosting. You can use anything that will "glue" the cake pieces together, i.e. peanut butter, chocolate syrup, creamer, etc.
