If a cake is made and iced with buttercream or some other frosting in need of refrigeration, and fondant accents are placed on the cake, is it safe to put the whole completed project in the fridge or will it ruin the fondant decor????

The only risk is condensation when you take it from the fridge. If the room is cool, it should be fine. If the is condensation, it should evaporate quickly.

I agree with pp... but is this cake even really in need of refrigeration? Buttercream is good for a lot longer than the cake part will be (stale, anyway) at room temp.

I don't use butter, but I do use milk and it does not need refrigerated. As I learned here on CC, the sugar and milk stablize each other.

I dont' know about the butter factor and will leave that to the other experts on here.

What about cream cheese? I mix cream cheese in with my BC. How would that do out of the fridge?

Cream cheese is fine for a few days and butter pretty long. I keep my butter for the fam on the counter always... some bowls go weeks before they get used up all the way.
