What Am I Doing Wrong Here?
Decorating By step0nmi Updated 10 Oct 2007 , 11:37pm by Bettycrockermommy
I recently contacted a family member of a cake I was going to do for her this month...wanted to make sure that she still needed one. I am a little confused after I have given her 2 emails from HER responses. I am going to include them here and please tell me if I need to be more specific or what I am doing wrong in these emails!?? Or am I interpreting them wrong?? I originally told her that I had this cute pig cake I could do for her daughter and she agreed to that!
I sent her:
Hey, just wanted to check in with you! You still want that cake for Haley right? Do you think the pig is okay? It's a small cake...well, it's not big like
Samarah's was! I have had it feed about 12 people cutting like a sliver for a piece! So I guess about 10 for okay size pieces, maybe 8. let me know cause I can do something else if you need it to feed more...or I can do the strawberry shortcake thing!
I also ask her about picking up the cake on Saturday.
She sent me:
Yes! Still in need of a cake for Hayleigh! Strawberry Shortcake would be
supper cute!!! I can pick it up Saturday morning no problem!!
I replied to this:
Okee dookee! How many people for the cake? Chocolate still? Was the pig cake not enough servings? What are your thoughts on this? Just want to make sure! I will get this cute little topper that is Strawberry Shortcake
but, that is going to be a little extra $...is that okay?
Let me know!
This is her last reply:
Sounds great! Thanks!
i KNOW I TEND TO PUT OTHER THINGS IN THESE EMAILS BUT, SHE DIDN'T ANSWER ANY OF MY QUESTIONS!!! WHAT SHOULD i DO??
I think it's time to call her. The email just isn't getting the answers you need. At least on the phone, you can keep asking until she answers.
I've noticed that some people tend to only answer one question if you ask several in the same email. Sometimes the only solution is to either only ask one question per email, or to number and separate the questions.
For example:
I need some more information before I can plan and make the cake.
1) How many people do you need the cake to serve?
2) What is your budget for this cake?
Doing it that way make it hard for them not to notice that there are 2 questions you need answered.
You poor thing! How frustrating! I think she must have got tooooo much air in her head!
jk of course.
I agree it is time to call her. Or just make the strawberry shortcake YOUR way and if she dares say anything when she sees the cake, hold your hand up in front of her face and tell her "talk to the hand cause the face don't listen"!! ![]()

LOL! I don't think I will be doing that to her! but, that's funny! I really didn't want to do the strawberry shortcake cause I didn't have any ideas for it! She just seems so wishy washy!
Thanks for the help guys!

This is excellent advice.....I used to have the same issue when I emailed questions in paragraph form; they'd only answer one question. So now, I number each question and ask them to reply and highlight their answers in red right after the question (that's optional, but easier for me to see that they've answered all of them)! I also don't ask what the budget is. I tell them the price per serving and they can do the math, plus the cost of the topper. I never leave that open-ended!
i would just send an email that just says....
how many servings do you need?
i wouldn't ask anything else. then if you get the answer send her an email that says.....
is the topper as an added cost okay with you?
i agree, just one question at a time.
good luck!!!!

Actually, that's what I do too. I don't think I've ever asked that question myself, come to think of it, but just threw it up there as an example question. I was trying to illustrate the format and didn't really think about the content.

YEah! I never ask a budget...I just say what the cost is! If they don't want it then they dont!
GUESS WHAT!!
So, I sent a specif email with "How many is this serving?" Her reply: ummm Just like Samarah's!
ARE YOU KIDDING ME!??? I never realized she was like this!!! I ask a specific question and she is comparing THIS cake to the last one I gave her! I know that is probably the "amount" of cake she wants but, that wasn't my question!!! I don't even want to make this cake anymore she has frustrated me so much! I don't even know what to do for Strawberry Shortcake!!! That is why I had the pig picked out!!!
UGGGHHH!!!! (thanks for letting me vent
)
