Does this recipe make a crunchy or chewy cookie.
Is it good on its own or does it have to be iced.
What tip is the best to flood or outline with for Toba"s glaze?
How far in advance can I make the cookies and then ice closer to the party.
I am making them for my 2 yr old son's BD party favors. I am also making the cake, cleaning and decorating by myself with a six month and 2 yr old at home, so I need to do as much in advance as possible!!
When I've made them they're always sturdy with a soft bite (yum). They don't expand too much when I bake them. They taste good plain and delicious iced or with MMF. I've never used Toba's icing so I can't answer that one. I've made and decorated them up to three days in advance and they were delicious. HTH---Cyndi
editted to add: One customer ordered them for a Saturday but picked them up the Wednesday before. I baked them on Monday and decorated on Tuesday.------she said everyone thought they were so good.
I love the NFSC recipe. It's delicious. I put in almond extract and it makes the cookies taste awesome. They do come out crispy, not chewy. I use Antonia's icing also which is awesome too. I haven't used Toba's yet. I use tip #10 or 12. They ice faster. I make my cookies and freeze them. A couple of days before the party I thaw them and decorate them and then let them set overnight (24 hours). They I put the decorated cookies in a tupperware container. They keep a long time. I had some left over that weren't iced and I ate them 10 days later and they tasted fine to me. You can also eat them uniced too.

HI I agree with Cyndi1207.... Plus .. I use a tip 3 for everything when I use Toba's glaze ( which I love ) I also have made and decorated them, bagged them and had people say they are still fresh 2 weeks later ! I have had some my self a week later and as long as they are bagged they tasted just as fresh as the first day!
REALLY!!! I would have thought you use a 1 or 2 tip!! i would have never guessed going that big!!
So I could go on and make them then freeze?? Then ice when it gets closer!! My party is on the 20th of October so I have about 1 1/2 weeks to get it done. I am such a perfectionist I want to make sure that I have enough time to make everything and not have to rush and make it look like it was not done to the best of my ability. I also need a little extra time cause I have never done this before!!
I made a batch of them seperated them and wrapped them in parchment and froze them. You cut them dip in sugar and bake them up... very yummy.
Hey again I guess if you have some real fine decor, you would want to maybe use a #1-2 TIP I hate the 1 TIP I THINK IT TAKES FOREVER!! If it was me I would go ahead and make my cookies and decorate etc ..And let them dry 24hrs before you bag them ( depends on what icing you end up using ) I would get it all done a week ahead ! and store them in a cool dark ( out of the sun ) place They will for sure still be fresh !
What shape and decoration are you thinking about ? Will it take some time ? or is it more of a outline and flood ?
They are dog bones (just white flood) and Paw prints (white flood background and Blue detail paw in center)
nothing really fancy. They are party favors for a blues clues party for my 2 yr old. But I do want them to be cute and taste good.
I made the cookies last night and I put in almond and vanilla flavoring. First time making these and oh my they are good with out any icing!!
