I'm doing a three tiered stacked cake for tomorrow (12", 9", 6"). I'll be bringing the cake unassembled to the venue, but as I was putting in the dowels tonight I realized that I didn't quite level the cakes... well, very level. icon_redface.gif I'm concerned when I stack them I may have problems with sturdiness. I wasn't planning on putting a center dowel in it because it won't be moving anywhere once I set it up, and I also don't have the tools to sharpen one and put it through the cake boards.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Cut the dowels to the height of the highest portion of each cake tier.

Fill the gaps between cakeboards and cake with decorative borders.

make sure all your dowels are the same height.

I've heard you can sharpen a dowel with a pencil sharpener. ??

Yes, as long as the dowels are all the same size, it should be sturdy enough. I hope you were planning on putting on a border, you will need it...

Hm, I haven't tried sharpening a dowel with a pencil sharpener. I figured it wouldn't work. Haha.

Thanks for the tips - hopefully it will work out!
