Adding Maraschino Cherries To Cake Batter?

Has anyone ever added chopped maraschino cherries to their cake batter before baking?

Just wondering if this will work or if they will dry out or fall to the bottom or something.

Also wondering if anyone has added chopped cherries to a whipped chocolate ganache as a filling?

I added them to cake and the customer loved it. I dried them well on papertowels before I chopped them (buzzed in food processor) They seemed to be well distributed, but I chopped them fairly small.

It would probably work just as well in ganache. Actually, it sounds pretty tasty. I better go have lunch.
