Ok! So, I am doing a cake for one of my friends for her wedding and I want to do it for her at cost, she would like to know how much it will be so that she can budget for it. I would like your advice on how much it would cost to make this:
- 3 tiers (10,8,6)
- chocolate cake with chocolate cream cheese buttercream frosting
- covered in black MMF with rose pinstripes (in MMF) and a rose colored drape that goes from the top to the bottom (also in MMF). (The drape with have real roses on it that she will provide)
Remember I only want her to pay for the cost of the cake (that includes dowels and boards too I suppose) icon_rolleyes.gif Thanks for much for your help!

I'm going to throw out a number of $50. I don't really know how much cream cheese is or how much of it you're going to need. I wouldn't not go less than $50 though. That is mighty nice of you may I add.

Editted to add that this would obviously be the cost where I'm from. I don't know how much more the ingrediants would be in Canada. That's kind of a tough question.

I know this really isn't the answer you want to hear, but I think this is going to take a little time and figureing on your part.

Is the cake from scratch or from a mix?
I don't know what kind of chocolate you are using in your icing.
I personally don't know how much MMF you would need to make to cover these size cakes, hopefully someone can help you with that.

Here is how I would figure it out though. Same concept for all of it, but I am just using the cake for the example
1) Figure the cost of your recipe
2) Figure out how much your recipe makes (how many cups?)
3) Figure out how many cups you need for each pan
a) For 2" deep pans and baking two of each size I come up with 23 cups of batter. These are for round cakes (I am assuming these are round since you didn't specify)
4) Take the total cups needed (23) divide by how many cups your cake recipe makes (I will use 6 as an example as that is how many my recipe makes) so I would need 3.88 recipes.. but I round up to 4 b/c I still have to make a full recipe

HTH

I have to head out but if you need some more help I will be back later

Alright, well I will be making a cake from the mix but will be adding an extender so I guess I will have to try and figure that out on my own.

To cover all three cakes would take 2 recipes of fondant, but I guess I was wondering if I need to charge for all of it or just what I use. I know that for cake I would charge for all of it... but the fondant that I don't use I could use at a different time... so I wasn't sure how to figure that out.

I guess I will just have to figure it all out. I just thought that maybe someone would roughly know from a cake they did. icon_wink.gif Thank you ladies for your help! icon_biggrin.gif

Cyndi1207, I think that you were very close with your calculation. I just tried to figure it out very roughly and that is very close to what I got. Good work! icon_wink.gif
