I have been browsing this site for a few weeks now, and enjoying every minute of it. In late October, I made a cake for a co-worker's birthday and it was fun. Dumb looking, but fun. So I bought a Wilton how-to book and some decorating equipment and had some more fun. I found this sight while looking for pictures of decorated cakes and I have learned so much here.

You are all so talented and creative. I see the most beautiful cakes posted in the gallery, along with such informative posts. Even the feedback I read is so genuine.

Because of my research on this website, I started taking my experiments to work with me. After my 3rd cake, I had a co-worker ask me to make him one and he paid me right there on the spot! Not to be outdone, my boss ordered a larger cake for 3 days earlier.

So I came back to this site for ideas, got some info on pricing, and I am proud to present... My first cake!!!

Welcome Jill!! This place is so addictive. Your cake looks wonderful! Now you have the cake bug! This forum is really helpful and there are so many people with so much knowledge to us us. Glad you came out of lurkdom!

Thanks! I called the first couple cakes I made "experiments"... that way nobody feels like they're offending me if they offer feedback.

The cake I made on Saturday... I just called it "Cake balls". It had a big peak in the middle, and a nice hard ridge along the edge. I followed the cake balls tutorial and my funny cake fulfilled its destiny. Now my husband and my toddler both come into the kitchen screaming for more cake balls. This is the tastiest hobby ever!
