I have a bride that wants to put real pine cones on her wedding cake???? Is this safe?

I am pretty sure I can make them out of gum paste. I am trying to convince her to go that way, just to be safe....

Any one know how to make them from gum paste? Any pics I could send her to see them?

I know it is kinda an odd question, thanks thumbs_up.gif

I notice this person did a wedding cake with a fake pine cone on top. You might want to PM her and ask. icon_smile.gif

Ew! I would worry that the "piney" taste would leach into the cake. I wouldn't "try" to talk her out of it, I would flat out refuse.
There are nice fake ones or make them. As a guest, I would not want to eat a cake with real pine cones on it, either. Anyway, just my $.02. Have fun!

here is a link to PennySue's pinecones. If you PM her she will send you step-by-step instructions. They are royal icing but they are very realistic. She also has a cake in her pictures where she uses the pinecones.

Something tells me that REAL pinecones on a cake could cause a lot of problems. I have been collecting pinecones from our tree this fall and you really have to worry about sap ... and if you have ever accidentally licked your fingers after touching one - YUCK!! You might be able to find something that would work and then just make sure that you lay waxpaper down so that the pinecones are not touching the cake. (Oh, and ones at stores, usually have perfumes ,,, and whoknows what kind of sprays or pesticides!!)

I saw a great pinecone cake on sug Buzz. I dont know if you belong to it too. The cake is under fondant wedding cakes. It is called country wedding by Peggy. The pinecones look very real. icon_smile.gif

icon_confused.gif Pinecones on cake? Yuck. Not only do you have to worry about sap but they are usually picked off the ground which means you have animals scurrying around or dogs or something. Double yuck. Plus, they have a scent that the cake will definitely absorb. I would also flat out refuse.
