Alright William has always been a busy kid.
Last week we lost him at church. We picked him up from his class but somehow he slipped away when I was talking to another mom. We have seven other kids so usually he doesn't get too far.
This time we found him in the parking lot. He was looking for our van.
I never felt my blood turn cold as when I saw him...all of 2 1/2 feet tall ambling around while cars where backing out. My heart about stopped.

This week he topped himself.
About 20 minutes into the sermon, suddenly there was a loud shrill noise. It was the fire alarm. icon_eek.gif
People are running up and down the hall, checking closets for smoke...nothing.
I'm in the baby room with my dd.
I quipped "How'd you like to be the mom of the kid who pulled the fire alarm?!!" Ha ha very funny.
The children's minister comes in to see if we are alright.
Who did it?
A little boy in the two year olds, he had on a green shirt . icon_eek.gif
You bettcha...it was William.
I turned so red. icon_redface.gif

He's a wild one.

Wow you have your hands full but I bet your family gatherings are just wonderful.
I know how you feel about losing your kid for a few seconds, I turned my back just for a second in Kmart when my daughter was about 2 and she climbed out of the cart and was gone. They locked down the store and a worker finally found her playing with a basketball in the the back of the store. My heart was aching. I grabbed her told everyone thank you and went home. I was so upset when I got home all I could do was cry. And she wonders why I need to know where she is at all times.
Yeah, the stories you can tell when he gets older.
I can also relate to the fire alarm, My son opened the emergency door at a department store one time. They weren't to happy. Hey, I think its time to remind him of that again.Lol.
Don't worry It gets easier.Or does it? I'm not sure.....

I was at KMart the other day and turned by back for a second and my 3yo was out of the cart and out of sight (I had put him in the back of the cart earlier b/c he wouldn't stay with me and I had two other kids with me). Then I hear my name on the intercom. I go to customer service and the lady tells me another customer had found him OUTSIDE THE STORE! He was in a heap of trouble that day.

I've luckily been able to keep my eye on my kids most times. My eldest, when he was 2 and I was very pregnant with my 2nd (I have 3), would not stay still and I had to let him down, tried to hold his hand while daddy was looking around a store in the mall. Well, he was pretty quick at that stage and got away, ran out of the store and into the next store over. I quickly ran after him (as quick as I could, being prego) and found him there but that was a little scary cause there can be creeps in the mall.

He also went through a stage at about that time where he'd try to play chase around the car in the parking lot. I'd go after him one way and he'd go the other way around the car. It scared me to death and I got so mad!! Luckily, I've been able to keep my others from doing that. Course, it's alot easier when you have older siblings to help catch them.

My mom says that if she ever lost my elder brother in the department store, she always knew to look in the TV section. He always seemed to find that and go sit and watch TV icon_razz.gif Oh, and she tells the story about how he and my other brother took a trip to Burger King all by themselves, crossing the road and everything when they were 3 and 4 icon_eek.gif The cops called and let her know they had the boys and then brought them home. wow...

I can only imagine how that would feel. I have 2 boys 6 and 1 (will be 2 in Nov.) and I am the posterchild for overprotective mothers. I always tell my oldest to "stay where you can see ME" because to a small child, they don't know if you can see them and they don't understand that, but they do understand to stay where they can see you. I never let me kids go anywhere without me, not even to the bathroom in public. Things are so different than the way they were when we were kids. People are so mean and sneaky. You never know where some creep may be hiding out waiting to snatch someones child. My youngest is probably going to be my "terror child". He is already very sneaky. Yesterday during my oldest son's soccer game, I was sitting on the bleachers watching the game with my youngest standing in front of me facing me and slowly backing up. He had done this before, and "usually" only backs up about 6 feet in front of me and then runs towards me, but yesterday, he decided he'd go a little farther, and backed up onto the field. I got up to get him, he turned around and started running down the soccer field laughing the entire time as if it was a game. So I'm sure I will have loads of fun adventures with that one. Good luck!!

Well if William won't keep you on your toes I don't know what will. icon_rolleyes.gif

I just had to say that I saw these posts about kids in parking lots, and that's one thing I've done is scare the crap out of my kids about parking lots. My youngest will be two next month and she won't walk in the parking lot, she must be held or she'll cry, because as she says "Cars gonna git you!!!"

Maybe it's mean of me but I would rather freak them out then have them run off into a parking lot! So I told her the cars are gonna get you if you don't hold my hand. It worked very well icon_wink.gif

ok how about this one, another Kmart story. When my youngest was about 4 we were in Kmart turned around to help oldest with trying on some school shoes next thing we know we can't find you DD. Calling for her no answer our neighbor who worked at the store at the time heard us and called for a lock down. called police in took almost 2 hours to search the store. We finally found her asleep in the tv area. She had laid on the lower part of a shelving unit to watch a movie on the tv and fell asleep. believe me she was grounded after giving her hugs and kisses. You also have to remember this was long before amber alerts were around. The store also changed there policy when a child is missing to also look on the lower part of shelves.
