Ok, So I'm gonna attempt to make my first fondant mini tier cake. My question is do I have to put the butter cream icing on before the fondant or should I just use a light layer of regular frosting?

Also, for a mini tier do I need to do anything special or can I just simply plop it on top?
As you can tell I'm a real beginner. Thanks in Advance!

Welcome to Cake Central.

All you need is a crumb coat of some sort to make the surface smooth and encourage the fondant to stick

you didn't mention the size of the mini, but if you are talking a real mini where the top is two of three inches, yes you can just plop it on top.

From your experience what are you caling buttercream icing and what are you calling regular icing?

And yes you have to have something on the cake. Fondant doesn't stick to cake.
