This was to be a very simple baby shower cupcake cake for which I am getting paid $50. They only had a shower invitation with these colors and similiar stripes and that's what they wanted. That's it. Nothing hard or too involved or so I thought.
Now I realize I hate doing stripes. Its hard to get them to look even, straight etc.
The lady is picking this up tomorrow.
Maybe I am just suffering from post-cake let down. You know that feeling you get when you finish a cake and realize it doesn't look quite as good as you pictured it in your head.
I am going to bed and maybe I will feel better about it tomorrow. Here's the cake in the link below....

Just seeing it this morning and I want to let you know I havn't made a perfect cake yet. Keep in mind we look at cakes differently, we see flaws most people don't notice. Your cake is beautiful, the colors are fantastic you did and excellent job piping the border, the writing is very well done and your icing looks perfectly smooth. I know I'll never make that perfect cake somehow I have a feeling nothings ever going to look as good as it does in our heads. I bet everyone will love it.
I think it looks great and I absolutely love the border. They'll love it.
I think it looks beautiful!!
I agree, stripes are a pain in the ass and the vision in our heads ALWAYS exceeds the outcome, but the realization I've come to is people are amazed at the simplest things we, as decorators and bakers, can do otherwise they wouldn't come to us.
I just made my first topsy turvy cake (packer's cake in my photos) and while I was highly disappointed with it
, everyone RAVED about it. Nothing ever quite compares to the picture I had in my mind for it, but it tasted great and people loved it.....that's all that matters, right.
You should be proud, I have yet to be able to pipe a straight line, even WITH a ruler!!! ![]()
You know I think it looks great. I love the border and your stipes look terrific. I would maybe do some brown dots or something (maybe even some fondant small circle cut outs) in the middle section to jazz it up. I realize you probably are probably copying the invite, but I think it would give it just a little kick.
Oh Amy...I hear your pain.I had a similar cake and they gave me the colors also...Yuk!!!Worst cake I had ever done!!!
Thank you all, thanks Kiddiecakes how are you doing? : )
I feel better about it today and the lady even gave me a $15 tip!! I couldn't believe it.
Feeling better now. : )
