Yet Another Airbrush Question - Luster
Decorating By feverfixer Updated 30 Sep 2007 , 3:36am by feverfixer
I am thinking of getting an airbrush, but I was wondering if you can use luster in them. Do you use the luster dust with vodka or are there special lusters for the airbrush? I love to use the super pearl dust and would like to spray this over the cake rather than having brush marks.
I am still trying to decide between the Kopykake and Americolor but everyone likes the one they have. I wish I could compare them side by side. I love Americolor food coloring but their airbrush is more expensive then the Kopykake.....Aaargh what do I do???
Can anyone help???

When considering an ab look at the complessor that comes w/it. KK's is small and not very powerful; great for a beginner. I haven't heard of Americolor having one.
Yes you can mix luster dust w/vodka and spray it thru an ab. Eventually it will ruin it but that's a long w/down the line. Consider that when you buy one.
I work at a cake shop, and the we actually just use a standards compressor. And attach our gun to it. So I would make sure to invest in a compressor that has a very low psi (10-15). The lower the better. Just like the above user, you can use luster dust in these machines. Play around with consistency, if its to thick it will clog the gun.

I would also suggest a top or side loading gun.. not a bottom loading one.
Good Luck!!
Thanks so much for the info. I will do the research and hopefully get one next week....wooohoo!!!
