Okay y'all -- if you got an order for a sheet cake for 50, how big would you make it and how much would you charge? The design is up for grabs, but she's a big fan of buttercream. Any thoughts?

depends on the serving size

a typical half sheet is 12 x 18 that would serve 108 wedding size servings 1x2x4

a quarter 9x 12 about 50 of the same size.

what is your normal price per serving- I use $1 a serving for non-tiered cakes as a base price.

for a sheet cake i do one layer 12x18 which feeds between 40-50 thats 2inches high. My starting price is $50 for that size sheet. And if they leave the design up to me then thats what i charge them for it.

If someone says "sheet cake", to me that is a single layer rectangle, so I would offer the 12x18, which when cut into 2x2x2 pieces will yield 54 pcs. My rate is $1.50/serving x 50 (I like round numbers) = $75.

I agree, I was thinking $1.50/slice and making a 12 x 18 for her. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't too low or too high.
