I need help painting on a cake. I have to paint a large, body tatoo onto a 2 tier cake. The colors are vibrant. I do not have time to order dusts to mix with vodka. Can I use regular paste food color and vodka? Can I use food color and piping gel? There is a large amount of detail, and very vibrant colors. I need it to look great.

Thanks

Yes you can use liquid and paste colors with or without alcohol. Just test the 'paint' on a scrap of fondant to be sure you get the coverage and color you want.

I've never attempted to paint a cake.

Why use Vodka? Does it hold the color?

Alcohol - vodka, tequilla ,everclear or even lemon extract (which has a very high percentage of alcohol) will evaporate very quickly. If you were to use water instead, it wouldn't evaporate as quickly and your surface would be sticky and/or melty... ew.

Alcohol makes it dry quicker very important if you don't have a long time, I've found some colours tend not to really dry if I use them without mixing in alcohol, but that's only my experience! icon_biggrin.gif
