I recently used a Martha Stewart recipe for "Old Fashioned Vanilla Cake." (The batter strongly resembles chocolate chip cookie dough when it's complete.) It tastes amazing when it's done, but looks absolutely hideous! It comes out of the oven with a cookie-ish crust on the top. The middle sinks like a cheesecake every time. And don't even try to flip it because it will crack (b/c of the top).

I really need some advice on how to fix this problem.
Thanks! Melissa

Welcome to cake central!

with a cup of eggwhites it should be lighter than cookie dough.

If you measured everything carefully and baked it at 325 you should have gotten better results

Have you tried baking it in two 8 or 9inch pans? A smaller cake might bake better. You could also try bake even strips around the pan, or use an inverted flower nail as a heating core to help it bake more even.

Aside from that, you could email Martha Stewart
