Can Anyone Help With Covering A Square Cake With Fondant/mmf
Decorating By Feefs Updated 30 Nov 2006 , 10:38am by hellie0h
Hi all
Okay... dumb question I know, but all the cakes I have covered in the past with fondant (apart from 1) have been round, and the one that I did do that is square was a bit dodgy for my liking.
Just wondering if there is any tips/tricks to get the corners perfect like you see in all those pics on the web!!!
Thanks heaps if you can help..

I'm wondering the same thing, cuz I know the day is coming when I'm gonna have to go square!
Feefs, how was the concert??
I still can't quite get all 4 corners so I am totally happy, at least I know there is always a way to cover things up a bit, bows, or whatnot.
I place fondant on top of square and sort of lift it away from the sides and smooth it down at the corners moving into the middle of the side and work each corner that way. It does also help a bit if you have it up on something so the fondant can hang down past the cake, just have to be careful of the weight tearing it at the top.
I did 2 squares tonight and one cylinder - all dummy cakes for a stacked gift wedding cake for Friday. Will post a picture over the next few days once I am done.
Timely question
I have a stack of 3 square dummies and a giant heap of Tiffany blue MMF resting on my counter, as we speak....going to try my first squares tomorrow and see what happens, and of course take pics for later posting. I'll post anything I can once I try it myself, in case I learn anything new or discover the secret to world peace or anything...lol
Here is a link from Ateco as to how to make marbled fondant with a mention on how to do cakes with corners. http://www.atecousa.net/learn/satin_ice_3.shtml
Hope this helps.
Here is a link that shows with pics putting fondant on square corners.
