I am new to the decorating hobbie. I have taken the wilton coruse one. My grandsons birthday was last weekend and he wanted a camo cake with army men on it. I surprised myself. I made a 9X13 sheet cake and it was a hit. My problem now is when I took the pics to work several people ask my if I would make camo cakes for their kids birthdays and what I would charge them. I am lost. I figuared the cost to be $10.38 so what should I charge. Thanks for any help I can get icon_cry.gif

For that size sheet cake I normally charge about $30.~ They have a system around here they follow... you take your cost, and multiply it by 3 and that's what you charge as a base price. Anything extra like fillings or fondant would be extra. You can also go by servings and charge $2.~ to $3.~ per serving depending on what exactly you're putting on it (fondant or BC) icon_smile.gif

Thanks for the help. I thought it would take me a lot more practice before anyone would want to hire me to make their cake. I had a lady tell me that is about what the local chain store bakery charges but the buttercream taste bad. Happy baking and thanks again!!!!!!

Thanks for the welcome charab31 it sure is fun but very addicitive. I start my wilton course two this week and I can't wait. I do mean can't wait. I signed up for a gumpaste class this weekend and a gingerbread class next weekend. I love making things. I work with mostly men and they will eat anything so I have a way to getting rid of all my practice work. I made my first spice cake with cream cheese icing last friday and it was gone in about 20 min. It was a 9X13. I am afraid I am spoiling them. Thanks again!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope to get photos in the computer soon. My husband downloads them for me. I guess I need to learn to do it myself.
